The Reverend Charles Taylor, who taught my pastoral care course at the Church Divinity School of the Pacific, said that since marriages and deaths were times of great change, they were also times of craziness. He reminded us that we as clergy were being paid to be the sane ones in the midst of all that crazy. I have never forgotten it and have relied on it to see me through some pretty crazy moments.
